Gork is a misspelling of Grok, the native AI feature on Twitter / X. Internet user began posting memes and jokes about “Gork” after jokes about people asking Grok to Explain This began to gain traction on the platform. Popular tweets about Gork include one that reads, “@gork make this studio gibli” and “@gork is this true.” An automated parody @Gork account was launched on April 30th, 2025. The seemingly automated account mimicked Gen Z slang and responded to all users who tagged it on the site, and repeatedly engaged with Elon Musk in early May 2025.

Origin

On March 30th, 2025, Twitter / X user Sashin45 shared a selfie with the caption, “@gork make this studio gibli.” The post was a misguided attempt to participate in the Studio Ghibli AI trend, where people used the GPT 4o image generator to convert real photos into Ghibli-esque cartoons.

The tweet was reposted on March 20th by X user @reinabugs, who gathered over 140,000 likes in a month.


On March 30th, 2025, Twitter / X user @reinabugs reposted a tweet originally posted by @Sashin45. The user had shared a selfie with the caption,

On April 6th, 2025, X user SuperMarioIre wrote, "make this studio gibli @gork," seemingly in reference to the aforementioned "gork make this studio gibli” tweet. The post gathered over 22,000 likes in a month.

On April 3rd, 2025, X user bostodm replied to a "#BanksAreOutOfMoney":https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/thebanksareoutofmoney post by @richard_normal, writing, "gork is this true.” The post, which included the Tony Stark Jarvis Commands meme as their profile picture meme, came to be reposted in subsequent weeks, as seen in an April 16th, 2025 BlueSky post that gathered over 1,000 likes in two weeks.

The parody X account @Gork was created on April 30th, 2025. The account began replying to all tweets that tagged @gork, similar to the original Grok AI bot. However, @Gork’s replies are more humorous and rife with Gen Z slang.

The account posted a meme that read, “@gork is this true,” on May 2nd and gathered over 9,000 likes in three days.

Elon Musk began interacting with the @Gork account in early May, and changed his profile picture and username to match it. On May 4th, 2025, Musk tweeted, “sup @gork changed my pp to urs wdyt,” prompting a back and forth between him and @Gork.
