I love to skip bottled sauces and dressings. It’s easy to mix up to make on a whim with staple ingredients I have on hand – butter, garlic, salt, pepper, and parmesan.
Garlic parm sauce is incredibly versatile and loaded with garlic flavor! It’s luxuriously smooth and cream and coats all of our favorite foods beautifully.
Ingredients

- Butter – Melted butter creates an amazing coat and rich, creamy. buttery flavor.
- Minced Garlic – Fresh minced garlic offers the most robust flavor, but these garlic substitutions also work well.
- Salt – Thick flakes of sea salt from a grinder add texture or use kosher salt in a pinch.
- Pepper – Thick flakes of fresh cracked pepper adds robust flavor, color, and texture. Season to taste.
- Parmesan – Use a block of fresh grated cheese for the best flavor and texture. Additives in pre-shredded cheese prevent it from melting as well, resulting in dry texture and flavor.
Substitutions and Variations
Garlic – 4 garlic cloves = 2 teaspoons of minced garlic. You really need fresh garlic here; this is not the place for garlic powder.
Creamy Garlic Parmesan Sauce – Add up to 1 cup of heavy cream to achieve a super creamy texture in this garlic parmesan sauce recipe.
Herbs and Spices – Spice it up with red pepper, Italian seasonings, fresh or dried parsley, basil, thyme or green onion.
Citrus – Add lemon zest for bright flavor.
Wine – A splash of dry white wine can adds depth to the sauce. Sauté garlic, add up to 1/4 cup dry white wine and reduce.
